Literature Text

I'm enslaved by the words of this time-honored classic
I cannot rest until the final page is turned
Knowing that there are chapters yet to be discovered
Makes my pulse race with the desire to know
What happens next?

As I turn the well worn pages of this borrowed sentiment
I wonder
Who were you?
The last person who held this volume as I do?
Cherished it as I do?
These beautiful well-read pages
Of the book I purchased for twenty-five cents
At the thrift store down the street.

I want to know you're name
The name that accompanies the handwritten notes
On characters and plot dynamics
In the margins on page three hundred forty-seven.
Part of my AP summer reading assignment is reading The Grapes of Wrath by Steinbeck. Instead of reading the new, uncreased book the school issued me, I went down to the thrift store and found a used one. There's just something about the way a book has been loved, been used, that I'm drawn to. I can't help but wonder who that person was who had the book before I did.

This is incredible. It would seem that you've found a treasure in the form of an old, well-loved book.
